Rita is an old woman who lives on the street in a converted double bass box. In the box she hides an alarm clock, her dentures and a picture of her children. Every night she kisses the picture goodnight before going to sleep in the safe cavity of the double bass box. During the day she trudges around the streets of the big city, and although she is often scolded and chased away, she never gives up hope of finding a quiet place to sleep at night.
How did she end up there, why is she always seen with a smile on her face, what was her life like? And is it true that she was once the country’s most famous female jazz double bassist?
Vai via is a co-production of Xirriquiteula Teatre (Catalonia) and ZeBU, which uses mimicry, quirky objects and lots of music to tell the moving story of her life.
Xirriquiteula Teater was founded in Badalona, Barcelona, in 1985. Over the years they have created and produced both street and indoor performances, always aimed at children. Each project is handcrafted with care to offer the audience quality theatre. They surround themselves with professional collaborators in each performance and have created most of them together in a process of research, experimentation and improvisation.
